Providence VP, Clinical IT Solution Delivery - Providence Clinical Network in Portland, Oregon

The VP, Clinical IT Solution Delivery - Providence Clinical Network is a new position that aligns to the new Division structure across Providence. This role reports directly to Information Services leadership and has dotted line reporting relationship to the Chief Executive of the Providence Clinical Network. The person in this role will regularly interact with the division chief executive and participate on a day-to-day basis as member of the division leadership team. This role is accountable for overall IT leadership and solution delivery to the division business operation which requires a deep understanding of the division strategic priorities and most pressing challenges. The role will work closely with the business and medical partner groups to ensure an accurate understanding of Providence system wide technological standards and strategy and ensure these meet the division's major needs, priorities, and initiatives. This includes aligning IT with the strategic business direction, translating the priorities into business solutions, development and maintenance of the division technology roadmap and implementing the solutions, change management and adoption strategies that deliver the greatest business value add. This position will also negotiate performance expectations, prioritize commitments with the regional and medical partners (on behalf of all of IS), assume accountability for achieving these expectations, and facilitate resolution of issues that influence performance.

This is a new and strategic role accountable for driving alignment and prioritization of technology solution roadmap across the full IT portfolio and the Division business strategy and operations. The role will oversee and manage the work of the Division's Clinical Informatics Executive Director so that together they can adequately capture and monitor business and clinical stakeholder needs, quality of experience and overall feedback. This position is also accountable for managing and prioritizing systems enhancement requests with division and systemwide initiatives and negotiating IT impacts with the appropriate division business and clinical leaders based on changing business priorities and requirements.

This role will help determine the necessary day-to-day and long-term investment that deliver the greatest value to the business. This includes prioritization of investments in alignment with the system priorities.

The person in this role will demonstrate a good balance of business and technology acumen, executive presence and maturity, a bias towards advancing business goals for the benefit of Providence's mission and a strong ability to drive towards key decisions and rally support across multiple cross functional teams towards key inform internal development of capabilities that meet purchaser demands.


  • Member of Divisions LT- building trusted partnerships, thorough understanding of business priorities and key objectives.

  • Overall IT leadership and solution delivery to the division business operation in partnership with IS, business and clinical stakeholders.

  • Accountable for understanding and supporting the division strategic priorities. Serve as a bridge between those priorities and the identification of technology based solutions and approaches.

  • Accountable for understanding Providence systemwide technology standards and strategies to ensure alignment with the division's focus and roadmap.

  • Helps determine day-to-day and long-term investment needs and identifies solutions that deliver the greatest value to the business.

  • Build listening systems to gather input and feedback from key stakeholders across the division and IS and ensure adequate responsiveness.

  • Accountable for adequate execution of Division technology roadmap. Identify risks and opportunities. Troubleshoot as needed and ensure appropriate communications and expectation setting across division and IS stakeholders. Drive appropriate change management and adoption strategies.

  • Drive the definition and implementation of key performance indicators and metrics and a cadence for review and monitoring with key stakeholders at different levels of the organization.


Required experience/education for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing or Computer Science.

  • Preferably more than 15 years of experience in defining and building IT Strategy planning, Solution Delivery as part of a digital transformation. Translating business requirements into technology roadmaps. Demonstrating business value of technology to business stakeholders.

  • More than 10 years in a leadership role interacting with c-level executives. Developing strategic roadmaps, prioritizing investments.

  • Advanced understanding of modern technology solutions and their application to real life business challenges (preferably in a healthcare setting).

  • Advanced demonstrated problem solving skills.

  • Advanced excellent collaboration and team building skills.

  • Advanced ability to build and manage effective teams.

  • Advanced ability to influence internal and/or external constituents.

Preferred experience/education for this position include:

  • Coursework/Training in Agile, Lean, Six Sigma, Prosci.

  • Master's Degree in Business administration.

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science.

  • 5 years of experience in solution delivery functions in a healthcare setting.

  • 5 years of experience in large scale digital transformation work.

Salary Range by Location:

Seattle, WA & Portland, OR:

Min: $224,000.00, Max: $260,000.00

Irvine, CA

Min: $260,000.00, Max: $300,000.00
