The caregiver must be sufficiently fluent in the English language to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. The degree of fluency required will vary depending upon the nature of the position.

For direct patient care roles: Performs and maintains currency of essential competencies as required by specific area of hire and populations served.
Prepares medications (oral, injectable or IV solutions) for dispensing.
Completes appropriate documentation per state and federal regulations/guidelines.
Monitors patient transfers and discharges to assure continuance/discontinuance of patient medications.
Assists in stock and inventory control to maintain an adequate supply on hand.
Checks inventory of drugs and solutions for outdates and removes or recycles.
Accesses Pyxis CII safe per policy. Corrects any discrepancies upon discovery. Informs supervisor of any irresolvable discrepancies/unusual occurrences.
Trains new personnel in respective areas of the pharmacy.
Provides clean and/or aseptic work area by assisting in area maintenance.
Assists with the shipment of medications.
Disposes of all waste in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
Functionally supports at least two additional practice areas or additional specialty areas:
• Environmental Testing/Monitoring - Oversees USP 797 compliance.
• Quality Improvement Efforts - Assists in continued regulatory readiness and/or actively leads/monitors department improvement efforts.
• Database Management/Maintenance - Supports informatics personnel through specialized knowledge of respective databases.
• Interacts with patients regularly on the phone or in person about their therapy, drug and supply needs and changes in health, physician or insurance.
• Prepares IV preparations regularly including TPNs using the compounder and/or level one through three manual mixes.
• Enter orders of new or altered prescriptions.
• Mixes antineoplastic preparations.
• Intellifill Robot operation.
• Accuflex Robot super user.
• Pyxis narcotic safe/Cubie replenishment super user.
• Acts as Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) for Patient Specialty Management Program (PSMP).
• Coordinates patient web portal management and/or patient co-pay assistance programs.
