Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Supervisor Inventory Control to our location in Portland, OR.

We are seeking a Supervisor Inventory Control who will be based in the local ministry this position supports. This position is accountable for the implementation of the One SCM Operations and Logistics strategy at the local ministry under the direction of the Director, Supply Chain. The Supervisor is specifically responsible for daily supervision of all supply chain operations and logistics functions to include inventory control and maintenance of all inventory and receiving related Materials Management systems and analytic information. They maintain the supply charge function and coordinates patient charges. The Supervisor develops and conducts employee annual performance reviews and participates in budget development under the direction of the Manager.

This position also is responsible for working with key operational stakeholders within their specific ministry as well as their supply chain peers within their specific Supply Chain Region to include participating in and partnering with others on OSCM Operations and Logistics operational improvement efforts and programs ensuring a compliant, effective, and streamlined operational OSCM experience at the local ministry/site for all caregivers they serve.

Under the direction of the Director the Supervisor, Inventory Control administers daily Supply Chain operations and logistics functions at acute care ministries, medical group clinics, long term care facilities and warehouse operations for their respective ministry. The position is responsible for the management of all perpetual, periodic and par inventories and all supplies received, stored, and issued at Providence ministries within their respective ministry or site.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of department staff which includes scheduling work, monitoring performance to ensure compliance with guidelines, policies, and procedures, providing feedback on performance, and writing and conducting performance reviews. Acts on behalf of Manager in their absence as directed.

  • Develop distribution procedures, job standards, and evaluation criteria in coordination with the Ministry/Site Managers.

  • Manage and direct all official supply chain perpetual inventories by analyzing product usage, and adjusting inventory levels as appropriate to optimize inventory levels at the ministry/site.

  • Monitor all additions, deletions, and changes to patient charges and keeps charges current and accurate. Works closely with departments to ensure product charges are made with the clinical information system (EPIC).

  • Take action to standardize the usage of medical products. Assists in overseeing all patient supply product evaluations and changes that affect perpetual inventories or pars. Assists as necessary with product recalls and/or returns.

  • Develop, maintain and monitor distribution systems in coordination with the specific departments involved.

  • Maintain the Lawson Inventory related databases on department computer system and ensures information is current and accurate.

  • Maintain and monitor Distribution statistics. Takes action and/or makes recommendations based upon analysis of information.

  • Monitors distribution labor hours reporting and makes adjustment to staffing as appropriate.

  • Conduct orientation and in-services education programs for staff. Coordinates all computer and procedure based training for supply chain employees. Develops and expands training documentation and classes for the Lawson/RQC applications through online training, the IS Training department, and in department training sessions.

  • Monitor the Supply areas for neatness and cleanliness to ensure they meet the Joint Commission and OSHA standards and takes action as appropriate to ensure compliance.

  • Lead the ministry/site cycle count program to ensure all perpetual inventories are counted according to system procedures and policies. Directs all physical Inventories to ensure they are completed on time and in a cost effective manner. Ensures completion of all appropriate paperwork/reports associated with the completion of cycle and physical inventories.

  • Work with departments to ensure inventory needs are consistently met by benchmarking Lawson reports. Ensures PAR levels are maintained Lawson benchmark reports via analytic. Interfaces with other Inventory Control personnel within the Region to ensure all supply issues are coordinated appropriately.

  • Participate on project teams and committees as necessary. Participates in professional activities to keep abreast of changes and developments in the Supply Chain Management and Inventory profession.

  • Conduct daily rounding of all customer units, reviewing units’ inventory needs, adjusting inventories as necessary, and conducting daily interviews with staff in those customer units.

  • Other duties as assigned or directed.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate degree in Healthcare, Business, Finance or Logistics/Supply Chain Management or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • 4 years of Supply Chain Management or Finance experience, including at least 1 year in a lead capacity.

  • Healthcare business operations and/or financial management experience in a healthcare setting.

  • Experience standardizing disparate processes.

  • Experience in process improvement methodology, change management, operational improvement

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Business, Finance or Logistics/Supply Chain Management.

  • 1 year experience in a healthcare setting.
