Providence is calling a Supervisor Clinical Nutrition - Nutrition Services (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Ambulatory Services in Portland, OR

We are seeking a Supervisor Clinical Nutrition - Nutrition Services that will oversee the clinical dietitians and daily operations for assigned locations in the Oregon region. Primary responsibilities include hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, supervising, coaching and developing clinical nutrition staff. The Clinical Nutrition Supervisor conducts annual competency assessments and facilitates clinician development plans, including clinical ladder. This position assists with audits and ensures alignment of department policies with state and federal regulations, and other regulatory bodies including the Joint Commission, CMS and the state dietitian Licensing Board. This position reports to the Regional Manager, Clinical Nutrition, and functions as a integral member of the clinical nutrition leadership team.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • CLINICAL PRACTICE / CLINIC OPERATIONS:

  • Supervises clinical dietitians and daily operations for each assigned hospital site.

  • Communicates and collaborates with the clinical dietitians, nutrition leadership team, providers and other stakeholders regarding daily operational issues.

  • Prepares dietitian schedules to meet the operational needs of each assigned hospital site.

  • Reviews and approves time off requests. Responsible for timecard approval.

  • Assists with staff coverage when needed. (Some positions may include up to 20% patient care as part of job role.)

  • Monitors staffing, caseloads and clinician productivity; adjusts caseloads as needed to meet department/site goals.

  • Investigates safety/compliance events and develops appropriate response or action plan.

  • Works as a team player to assure overall effective clinical operations.

  • Maintains current knowledge of trends in clinical nutrition practice, and patient care. Conveys new information to the clinical staff.

  • Interfaces with hospitalists, surgeons, specialty providers, nursing, pharmacy, care coordination, foodservice and other departments as needed.

  • Identifies and responds to situational problems, patient or provider concerns or clinical support staff issues in a professional manner using clinical judgment. Works toward a permanent resolution.

  • Participates and /or regularly attends hospital forums or meetings as appropriate.

  • Assists with Regional Manager, Clinical Nutrition duties and responsibilities in his/her absence.

  • LEADERSHIP/CAREGIVER DEVELOPMENT:

  • Responsible for hiring and selection of clinical dietitians to meet FTE needs at each assigned hospital location.

  • Manages on-boarding, orientation, training, and evaluation. Conducts 30-60-90 day check-ins and manages transition from introductory period.

  • Mentors, coaches and counsels clinical staff. Conducts one-on-one and team meetings to facilitate communication and enhance team building.

  • Monitors and ensures ongoing individual clinical development including performance evaluation, competency assessment, and growth and development plans.

  • Collaborates with Regional Manager, Clinical Nutrition to identify ongoing training needs to maintain and upgrade staff competencies and to support growth through clinical ladder.

  • Initiates disciplinary processes as required by policy, documenting and delivering coaching and corrective action when necessary. Progressive disciplinary process could include termination. Disciplinary processes are conducted with Clinic Manager involvement.

  • QUALITY MANAGEMENT/IMPROVEMENT FUNCTIONS:

  • Uses chart audits, EHR reporting and patient experience data to set quality improvement targets. Responsible for implementing improvement plans, training and evaluation for assigned sites.

  • Assists in the development and update of clinical protocols, policies and procedures in collaboration with the Regional Manager.

  • Identifies ongoing training needs of clinical staff and meets those needs by facilitating educational opportunities. Maintains staff education and training files.

  • Conducts chart audits to ensure compliance with documentation standards.

  • CLINICAL COVERAGE

  • Maintains clinical competency per department and Providence policies

  • Assists with and performs screening, assessment and interventions with patients per department policies. May be occasional or regularly scheduled (up to 20% of time) depending on FTE needed for assigned sites.

  • REGULATORY:

  • Responsible for Environment of Care (EOC), The Joint Commission (JC), Safety Surveys and review/disposition of Datix reports for assigned sites

  • Maintains a safe environment for staff and patients. Oversees completion of all required training and maintains training records.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree and Registered and licensed dietitian

  • 5 years of direct patient care, preferably in an inpatient setting.

  • Active state of Oregon RD licensure.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Nutrition or related field or equivalent educ/experience

  • 2 years in a supervisory position, preferably in an inpatient setting.
