Providence Health & Services Stationary Engineer Apprentice in Portland, Oregon
Providence is calling an Engineer Stationary Apprentice - Facility Services (1.0 FTE, Variables) to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR
We are seeking an Engineer Stationary Apprentice - Facility Services that will be responsible for demonstrating consistent progress in completing the apprenticeship program within the defined time period, acquiring and demonstrating the required competencies defined in the apprenticeship program., demonstrating the willingness to engage in continuous learning, demonstrating basic common sense in safe work procedures, and safe use and handling of tools and chemicals and responding to fire and other emergency events as directed. The apprentice-building engineer will act at all times to maintain a safe patient care environment and work place, in a manner that supports teamwork and a respectful, cooperative, and positive work environment, and in manner that is productive and uses resources efficiently and responsibly.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Maintains a safe work environment at all times, identifies, and reports unsafe equipment and conditions to the mentor, lead or department manager with special focus on fire safety and infection control.
Acts, at all times, in a manner that supports a friendly, respectful and positive work environment.
Performs duties in a manner that protects confidential information and privacy of patients and employees.
Performs duties in a manner that complies with the Providence Health System Code of Conduct and Standards of Behavior.
Must maintain enrollment in an approved building engineer apprenticeship program.
Maintains consistent progress in completing the apprenticeship program within the define time period.
Obtains an Oregon LME electrical license within 3 months of completing the apprenticeship program.
Works under the direction and supervision of a journeyman engineer.
Follows instructions from mentors and supervisors.
Demonstrates consistent progress in the ability to take instructions and work independently.
Develops and maintains a working knowledge of infection control procedures.
Develops and maintains a working knowledge of hospital policies and procedures.
Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the safe use, handling and storage of hazardous materials used to carry out duties.
Develops knowledge of new processes, equipment, and technologies used to carry out the work.
Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the locations and operation of equipment, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems and devices assigned to the department with an emphasis on infection control, fire safety and emergency equipment and systems.
Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the building systems and controls that affect infection control.
Develops and maintains a working knowledge of personal responsibilities for compliance with JCAHO standards.
Actively supports and participates in the service excellence program:
Consistently demonstrates service excellence standards of behavior.
Continuously works to improve personal performance by:
Actively inquiring, listening to and learning from others.
Actively seeking and participating in skills improvement and development training.
Actively seeking and incorporating performance improvement feed back.
Utilizes hospital and department resources in an appropriate and responsible manner, consistent with dept policies:
Reports to work on time and observes frequency and duration of break periods.
Arrives at meetings and appointments on time.
Follows hospital and department purchasing procedures.
Secures tools and equipment to minimize potential of theft.
Maintains all tools in a safe and serviceable condition.
Responds to fire alarms as directed.
Responds appropriately to other emergency events as directed.
Attends and participates in department and team meetings.
Communicates with the mentor lead or chief engineer, and department manager regarding status of assignments and progress in apprenticeship program:
Provides apprenticeship documentation as required by the program.
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Enrollment in an approved building engineer apprenticeship program immediately upon hire.
Driver's License required.
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
- Experience with computers and hand tools.
