The Service Area Director of Hospitality Services directs all Food Service, Clinical Nutrition, Linen/Laundry Services, Meeting Services, Patient Transportation, Guest Housing, and Environmental Services departments at PSV, PPMC, PWF and PMH. The Director is accountable for achieving financial, quality and operational objectives. This includes establishing vision and strategy, achieving leadership continuity by implementing talent management processes, monitoring internal/external environment to identify and implement bell practices, and measuring outcomes to ensure goals are met. Responsible for program support team in related departments in the Oregon Region. Responsible for oversight of Regional sustainability efforts including the Recycle Center. The Director is responsible for oversight of the PMH community teaching kitchen. Coordinates the regional management teams in the above areas to collaborate in developing departmental structures that support shared resources, standardization and ongoing cost/quality/experience improvement. Works closely with the REH support teams (Segment leaders and District Directors) to insure support of local goal alignment with system and OR region goals. Serves as a Board Member for the PHSC Linen CO-OP.

In this position you will:

  • Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of safety and infection control into daily activities as outlined in Environment of Care, Infection Control, and Exposure Control manuals and department safety policies/procedures. Consistently uses personal protective equipment as required and takes appropriate precautions whenever there is potential for contact with blood, body fluids, chemicals and/or other hazardous materials. Maintains knowledge of work-appropriate aspects of environment of care programs, complies with policies and reports unsafe conditions. Successfully complete Environment of Care Healthstream modules in the required timeframes and participates in fire drills and emergency exercises.

  • Develop individual objectives consistent with the Providence Health System's Oregon Management System. Measure and report on individual objectives quarterly.

  • Develop and implements the goals and objectives of the Regional Departments.

  • Develop an integrated process for preparing and implementing a strategic plan for the areas of responsibility. Annually review and update strategic plan to reflect changing patient and customer needs and strategic opportunities.

  • Lead and direct quality improvement efforts. Encourage and support involvement of staff in coordinated quality improvement activities.

  • Ensure the provision of high quality services by:

  • Recruiting and selecting qualified and outstanding employees.

  • Developing and implementing regional quality/service improvement activities.

  • Meeting accreditation requirements.

  • Developing regional Mission focus at all service sites.

  • Eliciting feedback from employees, physicians and patients/clients regarding service satisfaction and implementing appropriate action to effect change.

  • Meeting safety/infection control standards to protect patients /clients, visitors and employees in all service environments.

  • Supporting and enhancing employees" expertise to maintain/develop knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes which promote excellence and quality outcomes.

  • Ensure continued development and ability of services by:

  • Developing and implementing new and improved services.

  • Designing, developing, implementing and leading the design of patient, retail and clinical services to provide a comprehensive program for the region.

  • Establishing and maintaining strong relations and communications with hospital and community services.

  • Coordinating and developing collaborative services with various departments/programs to enhance end user service received.

  • Representing Regional Services accurately and effectively when participating in system committees, work groups and task forces.

  • Serving as a general consultative resource to other service areas within PHS and under the direction of Engineering and Hospitality.

  • Conducting research/studies to evaluate service quality and outcomes.

  • Creating/Responding to opportunities for service development with departments/community/region.

  • Collaborating with Medical/R3gional Directors to implement service strategies and plan service development.

  • Leading management team in planning, organizing and responding to identified trends and create opportunities for growth, development and improvement of services.

  • Enhancing personal expertise to stay current regarding services, trends and changes in health care.

  • Coordinate day operations by:

  • Establishing and implementing regional policies and procedures.

  • Establishing and controlling budgets and expenses.

  • Monitoring quality control statistics and leading and implementing changes to meet standards.

  • Leading and coordinating regional management team providing essential information/direction to allow effective staff/service management.

  • Monitoring, directing and negotiating contracted services.

  • Writing reports and communications to respond to requests and providing feedback and input regarding operations.

  • Developing and monitoring annual regional, department, management team and service objectives/standards and goals.

  • Achieve and maintain efficient and cost effective services by:

  • Establishing and promoting positive team problem solving to empower employees to act effectively to cause change.

  • Promoting innovation to identify new system efficiencies.

  • Utilizing decision support systems to track product line services and resources regionally.

  • Developing new systems which increase organization and control utilization of resources in all service areas and service environments.

  • Ensure optimum quality of work life environment for employees by:

  • Evaluating staff performance, and if necessary, disciplining or discharging staff who fail to meet expected performance standards according to established policies.

  • Supporting staff's professional growth and development.

  • Providing opportunities for staff involvement in decision making.

  • Conducting annual staff satisfaction surveys and incorporating staff input and suggestions to improve services/operations.

  • Recognizing outstanding service by staff.

  • Providing a positive and supportive work environment which motivates productive, effective and team-oriented performances.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school with a major in food or hospitality administration, clinical dietetics, business administration or related field.

  • Expert knowledge of service related operations, market research and development, safe food handling standards and practices, management principles, strong interpersonal communication and managerial skills required.

  • Advanced education in area of food or environmental services, change management, human resources, business and quality management.

  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience and demonstrated accomplishments.

  • Current driver’s license required.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master’s degree, preferred.
