Providence Health & Services Senior IS Security Engineer - PSJH in Portland, Oregon

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Senior IS Security Engineer PSJH to our location in Renton WA, Seattle WA, Portland OR, Beaverton OR, Torrance CA, Burbank CA, Anaheim CA or Spokane WA.

We are seeking a Senior IS Security Engineer to be responsible for researching, evaluating, and designing technical security solutions for the enterprise in support of the Strategic Security Plan; providing technical security assessment support; developing, maintaining, and monitoring an effective Information Security program to provide logical and physical protection of the company’s technical resources, as well as providing technical security collaboration and guidance in support of Providence Saint Joseph Health. Enterprise accountabilities include executing security engineering practices for Enterprise Security projects; conduct product research and participate in the selection process of technologies to support security requirements; establish technical security guidance for PSJH; and conduct technical security assessments.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Plans, researches, and provides technical design for security solutions in support of strategic security plan

  • Establishes configuration policies for security technologies

  • Leads the establishment of security engineering processes and procedures and conducts staff training on these procedures and processes

  • Evaluates system designs, provides recommendations to improve performance, security, and functionality

  • Creates and maintains internal training materials and provide training to appropriate information systems staff

  • Provides direction in developing specifications for selecting and testing new technologies

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or IT, or related industry

  • 8-10 years of IT technical experience

  • 5-8 years continuous information security experience

  • Experience developing standards and/or best practices for securing LAN, WAN, VPN, operating systems, mobile devices and firewall configuration, implementation, hardware selection, and topology design.

  • Ability to provide direction, insight, advice to Level I - II staff regarding the execution of tasks. Ability to assist Level I - II staff regarding new and emerging technologies, validate their research and provide oversight as necessary to insure they don’t explore unwarranted and unnecessary areas of technology.

  • Ability to work with business partners in resolving infrastructure outages. Must possess expert troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to assume leadership role in obtaining and directing technical resources during problem resolutions or during a crisis or critical problem event. Takes the lead in communications and vendor management.

  • Ability to recognize when standards, processes, policies or procedures are no longer effective and proactively resolves or assigns responsibility to resolve these issues and follows through to completion including a review of new the policies, procedures and standards.

  • Experience at creating, assigning and following up on task across multiple technology disciplines.

  • Ability to write, present, and communicate with management, summarize highly technical information for laypersons, align technology needs to business impact, understand and weigh risk to business impact, budget for current licensing and refresh as well as future technology capital investments, make the case to senior leadership for those capital investments, and explain major cyber events as well as what should be done to avoid them.

  • Ability to use ingenuity to solve technical problems, develop unique solutions for new technical issues or challenges.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Active CISSP, SCCP, CEH, SANS or equivalents
