Providence Scientist, Cancer Research in Portland, Oregon

Providence is calling a Scientist Cancer Research - Medical Research (1.0 FTE, Day) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

The Innate Immunology Laboratory at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute at Providence Cancer Institute is seeking highly motivated Scientist. Led by Terry R. Medler, Ph.D., the laboratory utilizes genetically engineered murine models of cancer that closely recapitulate human disease to understand dominant mechanisms by which the innate immune system fosters neoplasia and regulates the response to cancer therapeutics.

Our ultimate goal is to identify novel targets for therapeutic intervention, whether alone or in combination with standard-of-care chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or immunotherapy. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D. in Immunology, Cancer Biology, or a related field, and a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Experience in cell culture, flow cytometry/FACS, molecular biology, immunological techniques, and in vivo experimentation are major assets. You will also be responsible for performing biomedical experiments for projects of limited scope or portions of larger research projects in pursuit of overall research goal or objective of the research laboratory.

In addition you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Maintain and/or implement scientific plans and protocols to accomplish specific scientific objectives

  • Perform, document and report research results of complex biomedical experiments in support of research activities or specialized scientific laboratory

  • Implement methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for solving problems

  • Develop new production methods, scientific techniques and assays

  • Summarize and interpret data; formal reporting of research results including presentations and/or publications

  • Pursue external grant support to conduct relevant research with demonstrable value to Providence Health System

  • Prepare and submit proposals for grant and contract funding

  • Cognizant of potentially hazardous chemical, biological, or radiological materials; use of personal protective equipment; and adherence to strict safety protocols

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Ph.D. in appropriate field

  • Two (2) years of Biomedical research experience

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • Demonstrated publications in peer review journals

  • Able to maintain flexible hours
