Providence Health & Services Release of Information Specialist in Portland, Oregon
Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Health Release of Information Specialist to our location in Portland, OR.
We are seeking a Health Release of Information Specialist to respond to requests for patient information and confirms authorizations for such requests. May provide information to attorneys, auditors, disability personnel, insurance companies, physicians, clinicians, patients, business office employees, researchers and worker's compensation workers following all requirements for State and Federal regulations, HIPAA and Providence Health Systems policies.
The incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes the Providence mission, values, and philosophy. In all aspects, the incumbent serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Researches and responds to requests for patient information, both routine and emergent.
Confirms authorizations and/or verifies requests for release of information.
Determines location of requested record and retrieves it. This may include multiple electronic systems, paper or fiche/film.
Prints, faxes, scans, photocopies or saves to disc appropriate records from records management system, microfiche/microfilm or hard copy.
Maintains confidentiality of Protected Health Information.
Serves as a resource for other Providence Health System staff in the area of specialty.
Routes questions to appropriate Health Information Management or ancillary services personnel.
Responds to Business Office requests for information and copies.
Performs printer operation maintenance.
Maintains acceptable productivity standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications for this position include:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Knowledge of medical terminology
A minimum of two (2) years experience in health information
Knowledge of Federal and State laws regarding release of protected health information.
Knowledge of PH&S HIPAA compliance policies and procedures.
Ability to problem solve-selecting which of many procedures to follow in what sequence to achieve desired job results.
Ability to establish priorities with minimal supervision.
Ability to organize and prioritize work.
Ability to work effectively with rapidly changing priorities.
Ability to work with high level of accuracy with detail oriented tasks.
Assertive and persuasive, if called for.
Knowledge of Medical Record Department operating policies and procedures.
Keyboarding at 45 wpm.
Ability to read, write and speak English clearly and well.
Ability to communicate with courtesy and effectiveness in receiving and providing information.
Ability to interact with physicians and other health care professionals in a positive manner.
Ability to work effectively in a team to follow procedures and to accept accountability for the work product.
Knowledge of general hospital operations as well as office routines.
Knowledge of medical record content essential.
Knowledge of the hospital computer system.
Organizational ability in scheduling workflow.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
AA Degree or at least some college level course work, particularly in health information technology
Experience in a hospital environment
