Providence is calling a Registered Nurse - Spine Coordinator to Providence St. Vincent MOB East Pavilion in Portland, OR.

The main objective of this position is to develop and maintain a spine center of excellence for Providence Health System across the continuum from conservative care to post surgery. Primarily, this role with have a presence at Providence Portland Medical Center, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center. This team also collaborates with Providence Medford generally via teleconference. The simple goal of this program is to get the patient the right care at the right time.

The key principle duties of the RN Spine Coordinator are:

  • Teaching pre-op spine classes

  • RN Navigation - Spine Care Continuum

  • Tracking spine program quality and outcomes metrics

  • Coordination & participation in spine conferences

This is a team of 3 Nurse Coordinators and they're looking for an experienced RN that is collaborative, flexible, a true problem solver and someone who is self-motivated and has the ability to work autonomously. The nurse will need to have great customer service skills, not only with patients, but also with Primary Care Providers and be able to influence change where needed with both customer groups. We need someone who will be there to support their co-workers and has an affinity for also helping patients who are dealing with chronic pain.

This role is working with patients who are very vulnerable and we're looking for a nurse who is passionate in framing situations for the patient and wants to serve as a patient coach and advocate.

In this position you will:

  • For the Providence Brain and Spine Institute (PBSI) Spine program, work closely with the PBSI RN Program Developer to implement and maintain a formal spine program focused on appropriate surgical indications, patient navigation through diagnostics and treatment, patient outcomes and potential new payment methodologies.

  • Work with Program physicians to develop infrastructure in support of the treatment of patients with acute and chronic back pain symptoms using established protocols and treatment processes, with a focus on quality initiatives and education.

  • Work with Program physicians & care teams to ensure appropriate data collection and implementation of tracking tools for all aspects of the spine program.

  • Provide patient education and staff education; and will be coordinated with all Providence stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor of Science in nursing degree

  • Current Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) license

  • Washington RN license within 30 days of hire, during that time the caregiver will only be taking Oregon patients

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • 3 years of nursing experience

  • Experience working with patients with neurological conditions and/or other chronic conditions

  • Experience working with patient families & caregivers

  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • American Association of Neuroscience Nursing membership and certification

  • 5 years of nursing experience
