We are seeking a Qualified Mental Health Associate Emergency Department - Emergency Svcs Behavioral Hlth that will provide intervention and continuity of care to patients with behavioral health concerns and/or severe psycho-social stressors. Interventions involve providing supervision, emotional support, behavioral intervention, and basic care needs while functioning in the role of Qualified Mental Health Associate.
In this position, you will:
Monitoring and Intervention Function:
Provide direct and supportive care to mental health patients in the Emergency Department setting
Monitor patient acuity and changes in behavior
Attend to patients 'emotional needs' as designated in the care plan
Maintain awareness of the physical environment, milieu, and problems that could endanger others including observation of patients in relation to their disabilities, age, medical diagnosis and mental health condition
Assist Crisis Intervention Specialist, nurse, or physician with therapeutic interventions and plan of care
Legibly document observations and interventions in clinical record
Educate and prepare patients for clinical intervention changes to the plan of care
Provide appropriate support and education for the patient, family, or support persons
Monitoring and Ensuring Continuity of Care:
Maintain continuity of patient care between nursing and crisis Intervention Specialist
Assist with information flow between members of the care team
Report problems and/or concerns including change in condition to crisis intervention specialist, Emergency Department nurse, Emergency Department psychiatrist and/or Emergency Department physician in a timely manner
Provide and document constant observation of patient in restraints or seclusion
Provide consultation to nurses and care team around ongoing therapeutic care for patients in the Emergency Department
Effective Management of Urgent Changing Situations:
Attempt to meet patients' immediate needs and problem solves urgent requests as clinically appropriate
Observe all patients for safety within milieu during restraints or seclusion episodes
Coordinate with the Charge Nurse the immediate relocation of patients to ensure the safest management of volatile situations
Assist with department security and flow
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in a behavioral science field; preferably in mental health related field such as social work, psychology, and/or counseling -OR-
A combination of at least three (3) years or work, education, training, or experience required, must meet qualifications of a Qualified Mental Health Associate as identified by OARS 309-032-001 through 1295
Annual training in Prevention and Management of Assaultive Behavior (PMAB) within sixty (60) days of hire
Current ALS - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within sixty (60) days of hire
Two (2) years experience providing direct care assistance to individuals with behavioral health concerns and/or severe psycho-social stressors and/or Development Disabilities
Preferred qualification for this position include:
- Crisis Intervention -OR- emergency experience
