Patient Registrar - Emergency Department. This is an On Call position (0.0 FTE) that typically works variable hours during weekdays and weekends; days, evenings, & nights; minimum 8 shifts per month or as operations needs. This position is located at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Oregon near Barnes rd.

We are seeking a Patient Registrar - Emergency Department ER Customer Service who will be responsible for securing appropriate patient account reimbursement by obtaining complex demographic, insurance and medical information and ensuring this is documented timely and accurately.

The incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes the Providence mission, values, and philosophy. In all aspects, the incumbent serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Creating a consistent and exceptional patient experience throughout the patient interview process

  • Assess patient ability to complete the admission process prior to receiving services or going to their hospital rooms. In some instances, may require bedside registration

  • Alert clinical staff if patients need immediate attention

  • Ensure patients are registered in a timely manner, ensuring accounts are complete, compliant, and billable and do not require rework or intervention

  • Provide armbands in a timely manner and verify all information on the armband with patient to ensure accuracy

  • Request, collect and document co-pays from patients effectively and efficiently within EMTALA guidelines where applies

  • Escort and/or direct patient appropriately once registration completed

  • Secure patient's valuables in accordance with PH&S procedures, providing appropriate validation documentation and storing valuables in safe as needed

  • Return valuables to patients at discharge and complete valuables log

  • Ensure order entry tasks are completed timely and accurately

  • Process in-house patient work queues timely and accurately

  • Ensure all relevant documentation is scanned timely and accurately

  • For worker comp/labor and industries patients, ensure forms are filled in promptly and accurately and follow through with patients for signature and completion

  • Present ABN’s and ensure signatures are obtained

  • Ensure all computer system entries are completed accurately and timely

  • Maintain accurate, clear, concise, and complete account notes and other relevant information

  • Closely adhere to set schedules and handle time standards

  • Promote PH&S as a premier service organization by treating customers with compassion and respect

  • Identify, resolve and escalate major issues and service failures that impede success

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient demographic, medical, and financial information, ensuring proper handling and disposal of confidential documents and adherence to HIPAA

  • Comply with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and requirements as well as PH&S policies and procedures in all aspects of job performance

  • Act as backup to the Information desk as needed at your facility

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • High School Diploma -OR- GED

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • One (1) year experience in customer service or healthcare registration

  • Satisfactory completion of college level Medical Terminology or Medical Assistant course

  • National Certification of CHAA

  • Registrar and third party payor experience

  • Healthcare experience, in either a provider or payor site
