Providence On-Call Radiation Therapist in Portland, Oregon

Providence is calling a Radiation Therapist - Radiation Oncology (0.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

This is an On-Call (as needed) position supporting 3 treatment centers:

  • Clackamas Radiation Oncology Center - SE Sunnybrook Blvd.

  • Providence Portland Medical Center - NE Glisan

  • Providence St. Vincent - SW Barnes Road

Work schedule as On-Call will be Mon-Fri day shift, no nights or weekends. The Radiation Therapist generally sees the first patient at 7am and last patient done by 4pm.

We are seeking a Radiation Therapist - Radiation Oncology who will perform simulations and deliver therapeutic ionizing radiation to the patient as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. Assist the physician and fellow employees to provide optimum care and treatment to the patients.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Responsible for keeping abreast of current technical trends and procedures used in the care and treatment of radiation therapy patients and the ability of applying such knowledge:

  • Participate in continuing education through attendance in appropriate meetings, conferences, classes and literature review

  • Actively communicate ideas, current techniques, meeting information, etc. to co-workers and radiation therapy students

  • Provide appropriate and understandable information to the adult and geriatric patient regarding health care and potential problems during radiation therapy

  • In cooperation with the nursing staff, Radiation Oncologist and other care providers, responsible for monitoring patients physical, emotional and psychological status during their course of treatment

  • Responsible for prompt and efficient patient scheduling:

  • Following turn-around standards, coordinates simulation and treatment planning sessions with machine start schedule

  • Coordinate daily treatment appointment according to specific treatment or patient needs leaving adequate time for technique being used

  • Prepare for treatment planning conference by ensuring that appropriate studies, lab work, planning films, etc. are available

  • Responsible for proficient and accurate performance in simulation:

  • Legibly completes appropriate paperwork and documentation in accordance with charting standards

  • Perform routine simulations with basic knowledge of proper positioning, filming, and acquisition of dosimetric information

  • Perform advanced simulation techniques in cooperation with the dosimetrist and/or physicist

  • Construct and utilize immobilization devices

  • Following procedural guidelines, constructs and verifies alignment of custom fabricated blocks

  • Independently operate simulation equipment in a safe and proper manner

  • Obtain imaging records / studies in accordance with departmental procedures

  • Schedule patients for simulation and first treatment in accordance with established standards, variation of standard needs physics approval

  • Operates and understands the function of the treatment machines, simulators and accessory equipment (i.e., block fabrication, immobilization devices, etc.):

  • In cooperation with physics, occasional checking of equipment for quality control (i.e., door interlocks, emergency off, beam output / constancy monitors, treatment device, etc.)

  • Identify and report any malfunctions and/or deficiencies to the appropriate staff member

  • With the Physicist and Bio-Med Engineer, coordinates and schedules routine preventive maintenance inspections and machine calibration

  • Responsible for maintaining treatment rooms, simulators, mold room and dark room in a safe, orderly, clean and well stocked manner

  • Responsible for accurate completion of daily patient statistics and charges following department standards

  • Complete work assignments in a timely manner and requests assistance as needed

  • Be accountable for on-going, active participation in the weekly treatment evaluation sessions (i.e. Chart Rounds):

  • Openly discusses specific and general patient problems, condition and concerns

  • Contribute to solution of treatment technique problems

  • In cooperation with the Lead Therapist, teaches, demonstrates and guides the radiation therapy students by means of clinical practice:

  • Assist in development and maintenance of up-to-date teaching procedures

  • Prepare written performance evaluations

  • Participate as requested in department Quality Assurance by conducting appropriate tasks and collecting statistics in an accurate, timely manner, any problems or discrepancies are reported immediately to supervisor

  • Be accountable for periodic on-call coverage (rotational basis) for emergent, after hours patient treatment

  • Adhere to the dress code policy of the Department of Radiation Oncology

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Graduate of an AMA-approved Radiation Therapy Technology program

  • Registered or board-eligible, by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).

  • Current State of Oregon Radiation Therapy Technologist (RTT) license

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • One (1) year experience
