We are seeking a Laboratory Shift Supervisor - Micro Molecular Lab that will be responsible for supervising evening and night-shift technical staff and supporting the Technical Supervisor with day-to-day operations. Duties include, but are not limited to working the bench when needed/scheduled, providing on-site leadership and guidance for the evening and night shift laboratory personnel and performing specific tasks designated by the Technical Supervisor.
The position of Shift Supervisor is one primarily focused on supporting the Technical Supervisor in delivering service commitments defined for the location in which the department resides. The delivery of services must be performed in a highly cost effective manner while maintaining appropriate licensures and conditions as required by CLIA, OSHA, CAP, the Quality Plan and the Laboratory Compliance Program.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Perform the duties of a Medical Technologist/MLT
Demonstrate positive interactions with the public, and positive interpersonal relations in dealing with fellow employees, supervisors, and other department employees, so that productivity and positive employee relations are maximized
Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, and other information, as appropriate
Support and contribute to effective safety and risk management efforts by adhering to established policies and procedures, maintaining a safe environment, promoting accident prevention, and identifying and reporting potential liabilities
Assist in monitoring services for quality and timeliness
Assist in the research and development of new tests, protocols, or equipment as assigned by Technical Supervisor
Supervise employees in the performance of their duties. This includes training, evaluating, and if necessary, counseling employees
Participate in department and hospital Continuous Quality Improvement programs as assigned by Technical Supervisor
Perform all quality control as prescribed by procedure and generally acceptable laboratory practice, including appropriate corrective actions
Maintain knowledge of existing policies, procedures and protocols while acquiring knowledge of new and/or altered material. Requires active participation in meetings, manual review and reading of posted communications
Follow prescribed procedures for collection and processing of specimens
Support activities necessary to achieve the operational and financial goals for the technical department as defined in the budget
Maintain conditions necessary to meet all regulatory requirements associated with CLIA, OSHA, CAP, JC and the Laboratory Quality Plan
Maintain conditions to ensure that all requirements of the Laboratory Compliance Program are met
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree -OR- Associate's Degree
MT or equivalent certification (i.e., HEW, AMT, and NCA) or MLT
Five (5) years of experience in the clinical laboratory
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Coursework/Training: Training and education in management techniques
Recent experience in a supervisor or lead position
