Providence Health & Services Laboratory Billing Specialist in Portland, Oregon
Providence is calling a Laboratory Billing Specialist to the Regional Core Lab at Providence Office Park in Portland, OR. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), day shift position. Expected schedule will be Monday - Friday with flexible start times during standard business hours.
This is a fully-remote position in the immediate Portland Service Area, but might change in the future to a hybrid model working both remotely and in-office.

We are seeking a Laboratory Billing Specialist - Regional Core Lab that will be responsible for handling regional laboratory inquiries from the Regional Business Office, Access Services, the Master Participant Index, Marketing, Quality Assurance and others for resolution of questions pertaining to CCI edits, dates of service, insurance denials, account types used, wrong patients and duplicate patients between HBOC and Cerner, Medicare requests and any other billing concerns.
The Billing Specialist monitors laboratory charges for accuracy and completeness. Reviews and resolves charge error reports. Specialist performs manual charge entry for referral laboratory testing. The Billing Specialist reviews regional referral lab bills and codes according to departments. Coordinator, audit bills for pricing, correct patient account, correct charge, billed by referral lab or PH&S appropriately.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Audit, review and identify billing exceptions on a daily basis. Including review of billing system error reports, work queues, CCI edits and LIS audit reports. Takes appropriate action to resolve all billing exceptions identified
Perform manual charge and credit entry. Includes processing daily credit requests, late charge entry and referral lab charging
Reconcile referral lab invoices for correct pricing and patient billing accuracy
Coordinate invoice approval and codes invoices for expensing
Provide internal support for all laboratory billing inquiries
Coordinate cross functionally with Providence and outside resources to resolve billing questions
Facilitate interdepartmental cooperation with regional business office, access services, enterprise master participant index, quality and compliance, marketing and laboratory operations to optimize billing activities
Participate in development of billing process improvement projects related to compliance and reimbursement
Perform other tasks and duties necessary to achieve the position description as outlined in the summary
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Five (5) years of experience in laboratory billing
Proven experience in Microsoft Office Products
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Associate's Degree
