Providence Health & Services Inpatient Maternity Social Worker - LCSW or CSWA in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling an on-call Clinical Social Worker - LCSW or CSWA to our Providence Beginnings program in Portland, OR.

The Providence Beginnings team provides social work, case management, and home visiting nurse services to high risk maternity patients across the continuum of care. This position will cover day shifts in the hospital maternity and neonatal intensive care units at both Providence Portland & St. Vincent Medical Centers.

The on-call schedule does not have guaranteed hours but will cover planned and unplanned PTO or leave of absences for a large team. The on-call social worker must have availability to cover weekends shifts.

This position is open for LCSWs and CSWAs that are passionate about working in Labor & Delivery and the NICU!

In this position, you will:

  • Provide comprehensive biopsychosocial/spiritual assessment, diagnosis and/or treatment/interventions/advocacy of patients, and their support systems under direct and continuous supervision.

  • Incorporate concepts and theories associated with life span development, neurobiology, and behavioral change.

  • Collaborate with the patient and support system(s) to develop and implement evidence-informed person-centered care plans across the care continuum in collaboration with the Inter/Multi-Disciplinary Team (IDT).

  • Perform duties in a manner that respects patient self-determination that reduces health disparities/barriers to care and adheres to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) code of ethics, Standards of Practice (SOP), and mission.

  • Work in conjunction with the patient and caregivers, develop, implement, and monitor a plan of care to support positive birth outcomes and successful transition to parenting.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work from a Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited school of social work or from a school in candidacy status by the CSWE

  • Temporary Clinical Social Work Associate (CSWA) license or proof of CSWA initiated within 6 months of hire

  • Documentation of an approved supervision plan from the Oregon Board

  • Must obtain Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Board licensure within a maximum of 5 years from CSWA application, or date of hire date as a CSWA

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

  • Healthcare experience

  • Experience in perinatal social work, mental health, and/or child/family services

  • Spanish language skills
