Providence is calling a Histotechnician 2 (1.0 FTE, Rotating/Variable Shift) to Providence Office Park in Portland, OR.
In this position you will:
Contribute a valuable service aiding pathologists in providing patient diagnoses.
Utilize information gained through microscopic evaluation of tissue slides prepared by histology technicians allows a pathologist to either identify or dismiss disease.
Take preparatory steps taken to ensure a quality diagnosis are key to this relationship.
Prepare microscopic tissue slides for diagnostic and/or research purposes; performs tissue stains to assist in diagnosis; handles specimen accessioning; maintains laboratory and equipment, under general supervision.
Have knowledge basic pathologic conditions, skills in the use of precision equipment, and performance of special stains are required for accurately demonstrating the morphology of tissue specimens.
Have knowledge of biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology and medical terminology is essential for the professional histology technician.
Pay attention to detail, good manual dexterity, and a concern for patient well-being are imperative characteristics of this position.
Have an understanding of the Providence Health and Services, and Oregon Regional Laboratory Services goals and strategies; including the Regional Laboratory Quality Policy.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Histotechnician (HT) or International Histotechnologist (HTL) American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification with Bachelor's degree and 1 year of industry experience at an equivalent high volume or acute care laboratory performing high complexity testing -or-
HT (ASCP) certification from accredited training program, or on the job training (OJT) and 3 years industry experience at an equivalent high volume or acute care laboratory performing high complexity testing
