Providence Health Unit Coordinator-CMFC in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) - Health Information Management (0.8 FTE, Days) to Providence Child Center in Portland, OR

We are seeking a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) - Health Information Management that will provide support services for the Center for Medically Fragile Children including answering phones, taking orders, ordering supplies & tracking facility statistics.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement process as defined in the Quality Management plan

  • Be responsible for filing documents in charts, purging documents to overflow filing, assembly of admission charts and breakdown of discharge charts

  • Maintain confidentiality

  • Schedule laboratory work, x-rays, consults and outside appointments as ordered, arranging for transportation, if needed, and completing paperwork needed for appointment, may be involved in acquiring necessary authorizations or referrals

  • Take reports of completed laboratory work and x-rays accurately and notifies charge nurse or team leader of results

  • Assist with clinics. Coordinates transfer of residents to exam rooms

  • Be responsible for requisitioning newly prescribed medications

  • Function as backup in ordering pharmacy supplies

  • Assist with stocking routine medical supplies

  • Function as a receptionist for parents and visitors to the Center for Medically Fragile Children, greeting and directing them as appropriate

  • Answer telephone in a professional manner referring calls or taking messages as needed

  • Communicate in a professional manner with children's families directing questions or concerns to the appropriate team member

  • Attend in-services, staff meetings and departmental meetings, participates in fire drills

  • Participate in the Center for Medically Fragile Children or Providence Child Center committees

  • Identify own learning needs

  • Take staffing calls when staffing coordinator is not available

  • Replace staff who have called in sick or absent, under direction of the charge nurse

  • Record call out information and makes changes on schedules accurately

  • Assist with coordination or repair or maintenance of medical equipment


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • High School Diploma -OR- GED or equvalent experience

  • One (1) year of experience in healthcare facility

  • Education or training will be considered in lieu of experience

  • Proven track record of dependability and reliability

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
