Providence Dietitian *0.6 FTE - Days* in Portland, Oregon


This position rotates between the outpatient cancer centers at Providence St Vincent and Newberg. Scheduled days are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Up to 25% remote if desired once established in the role.

$3,000 hiring bonus for eligible external hires that meet required qualifications and conditions for payment.

The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist works closely with the departmental and interdisciplinary health care team to provide outpatient care that is integrated and compatible with patient-centered medical goals and objectives. The RDN Utilizes the Nutrition Care Process and Terminology (NCPT) to assess nutrition status, identify nutrition diagnoses, performs nutrition-focused physical examination, interprets results and makes nutrition diagnoses, orders nutrition and diet orders, designs and implements nutrition care plans and evaluates outcomes of nutrition care plans for patients who are at nutrition risk or malnourished. Provides medical nutrition therapy and professional nutrition counseling methods to patients, families and the community.

  • Assesses the patient's current nutritional status and metabolic condition to recognize characteristics that place patient at risk for malnutrition, and other nutrition related problems including nutrient deficiency, insufficiency, and excess.

  • Monitors, identifies and manages ongoing patient nutritional needs, recommending appropriate modifications in medical nutrition therapy as indicated, or writing orders within scope of practice.

  • Counsels, teaches and supports patients, family and care partners in principles and applications of the nutrition plan, taking into account individual patients' unique cultural, religious, physical or age-related needs and preferences.

  • Critically analyzes and reports findings to, and in conjunction with the physician, health care staff, patients and/or families to coordinate nutrition care for the best patient outcome.

  • Identifies and documents protein-calorie malnutrition. Brings all patients with nutrition risk and malnutrition concerns to the attention of the physician in a timely manner using organizational standard processes.

  • Clearly documents nutrition plan in medical record following standards of care and approved charting formats.

  • Teaches classes related to cancer nutrition and gives talks to the community when the need arises.

  • Assists in the development of educational materials to support healthy nutrition habits and lifestyles.

  • Writes tube feeding orders and coordinates with DME providers for supply delivery and teaching.

  • Implements medical staff approved nutrition protocols to provide optimal patient care.

  • Provides and documents discharge information and discharge care plans from clinic to patients and their next care providers.

  • Performs all duties within the context of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Scope of Practice of the registered dietitian nutritionist in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects the Providence Health & Services mission, values, goals and philosophy.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree - Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition or related area granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university, or foreign equivalent.

  • Coursework/Training - Dietetics coursework and supervised practice through a Didactic Program in Dietetics and Dietetic Internship or Coordinated Program in Dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

  • National CDR Registered Dietitian - Commission on Dietetic Registration upon hire.

  • Oregon Dietitian License within 6 months of hire.

  • 2 years - Oncology or Nutrition Support experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree - Dietetics-related field; or degree expected to be conferred within 3 months.

  • Certification in oncology (CSO) OR Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) within 6 months of hire.
