The University of Providence is seeking an outstanding, innovative and experienced individual to join our organization located in Great Falls, Montana, for the position of Controller.

The Controller will oversee and manage the University’s comprehensive accounting and Payroll operations, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, grant accounting, and endowment accounting. This position will guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies, procedures and internal controls. In addition, this position will be responsible for financial statements, month end processes, reconciliation, analysis, and audits. This position will supervise Accounting staff and will report to the University VP of Finance.
Essential Job Functions:
Coordinate the accounting operations of the University.
Provide guidance and direction to the finance/accounting team, and serve as the resource for department and University goals.
Oversee the development, revisions and administration of policies, procedures, and processes related to payroll.
Maintain an environment that focuses on superior service to all customers, including students, parents, faculty and staff.
Train, supervise, manage and evaluate the accounting staff to ensure accuracy of reporting, customer satisfaction and efficient operations.
Review and approve all accounting journal entries. Oversee investments and endowment funds and record monthly activity.
Assist the VP for Finance with the University Budget
Ensure compliance with Federal and State regulation and reporting requirements including FASB, GAAP, NACUBO, IPEDS, and Form 990.
Ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations applicable to payroll.
Serve as the University’s liaison for the independent auditor. Create master schedule of all activities related to the annual audit including due dates, data requirements, reconciliation spreadsheet and closing and adjusting entries for year-end close.
Required qualifications for this position include:
At least 5 years of progressive experience in a professional accounting position; experience within higher education or non-profit sector preferred.
Working knowledge of theories and principles of FASB, generally accepted accounting principles and systems of internal control management.
Hands-on supervisory experience with all aspects of payroll operations.
Demonstrated experience with automated and integrated accounting software and Microsoft Office products.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
CPA or MBA.
Knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices associated with higher education.
Experience with Ellucian Banner ERP.
