Clinical Ethics Fellow *On Site*. Relocation support available for well-qualified candidates.
The Clinical Ethics Fellow works with the Director and Clinical Ethicist(s) to learn, develop, and practice the skills necessary to serve in the field of health care ethics through providing clinical ethics consultation, delivering ethics education, engaging in research and scholarship, and providing organizational ethics support. This position will work on site at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland with travel to Oregon Ministries as directed.
The Clinical Ethics Fellow is a position under the programmatic structure of the Fellowship in Clinical Ethics & Health Justice: an initiative of the Providence Center for Health Care Ethics. The Center was founded in 2000 and houses an endowed chair, employs three full-time ethicists and a support staff, stewards multiple funded lectureships, and offers pioneering ethics education for clinicians and health care leaders at a faith-based, mission-driven community health care system. Performing several hundred consults a year across an integrated delivery system ranging from tertiary care medical centers with a heart transplantation program to critical access hospitals and across multiple lines of business (acute care, primary care, subspecialty care, and in-home care such as home health and hospice), the Center is fully integrated clinically while robustly embedded institutionally offering organizational ethics consultation and research ethics support (e.g., multiple IRB panels). Required qualifications:
Preferred qualifications:
Terminal doctoral degree in Bioethics, Moral Philosophy, Moral Theology, or clinical concentration with significant coursework in Bioethics, Moral Philosophy, or Moral Theology. Or equivalent educ/experience
Within 1 year of hire Attainment of the Healthcare Ethics Consultant-Certified (HEC-C) designation in health care ethics (cf. American Society for Bioethics and Humanities.
1 year Supervised clinical ethics experience in a Catholic health care setting or other faith-based health care setting.
1 year Experience in a health care setting
