Providence Building Engineer in Portland, Oregon
Description:
Providence is looking for a Building Engineer (1.0 FTE) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.
This department is a 24/7 operation. The Building Engineer may work one of the following schedules:
Days - Monday through Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm
Evenings - Either Saturday through Tuesday OR Wednesday through Saturday; 3:00pm - 1:30am.
Nights - Either Saturday through Tuesday OR Tuesday through Friday; 9pm - 7:30am
Providence seeking a Building Engineer that support the environment required for the delivery of health care services. The building engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability and safety of the building systems by monitoring, operating and maintaining, building systems and equipment.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Maintain a safe work environment at all times, identifies, and reports unsafe equipment and conditions to the lead or department manager with special focus on fire safety and infection control
Act, at all times, in a manner that supports a friendly, respectful and positive work environment
Perform duties in a manner that protects confidential information and privacy of patients and employees
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of infection control procedures
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of hospital policies and procedures
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the safe use, handling and storage of hazardous materials used to carry out duties
Develop knowledge of new processes, equipment, and technologies used to carry out the work
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the locations and operation of equipment, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems and devices assigned to the department with an emphasis on infection control, fire safety and emergency equipment and systems
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the building systems and controls that affect infection control
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of personal responsibilities for compliance with JCAHO standards
Actively support and participate in the service excellence program
Continuously works to improve personal performance by:
Be actively seeking and participating in skills improvement and development training
Be actively seeking and incorporating performance feed back
Perform building operations and maintenance duties:
Inspect, test, operate, maintain building utility and fire safety system
Operate, monitor and maintain central plant equipment
Steam System
Chilled water system
Emergency Power Generators
Medical Gas & Vacuum system
Inspect, test, and repair hospital equipment, and appliances as assigned
Installs, repairs, and removes, equipment and appliances as assigned
Repair plumbing equipment and unplugs toilets
Maintain mechanical rooms in a clean and organized manner
Complete work orders records and required documentation of maintenance activity
Utilize hospital and department resources in an appropriate and responsible manner, consistent with dept policies:
Report to work on time and observes frequency and duration of break periods
Arrive at meetings and appointments on time
Plan, prioritize, problem solves, and carries out work in an efficient and productive manner without supervision
Purchase material, equipment and services within budget
Follow hospital and department purchasing procedures
Secure tools and equipment to minimize potential of theft
Maintain all tools in a safe and serviceable condition
Respond to fire alarms, provides assistance and / or initiates the fire response appropriate for the event, until fire department arrives
Respond appropriately to other emergency events and callbacks as required
Attend and participate in department and team meetings
Communicate with the lead or chief engineer, and department manager regarding status of work orders and departmental concerns
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
High School Diploma -OR- GED
Current license from the options listed below:
Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME)
General Supervising Electrician (S)
Limited Supervising Electrician (PS)
General Journeyman Electrician (J)
Limited Journeyman Manufacturing Plant Electrician (PJ)
Exception: Engineers hired prior to 1999 who do not have a valid LME are "grandfathered" and not required to have a LME
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Successfully completed a stationary engineer apprenticeship -OR- Stationary engineer apprenticeship: equivalent training
Trained on using computerized building controls system (DDC) -OR- equivalent education/experience
Universal Refrigerant handling certificate
Valid Driver's License
Three (3) years experience in central plant operations and maintenance
Experienced in operation and maintenance of fire alarm systems
