Providence is seeking a Senior Manager Software Engineering:

Software Engineers take end-to-end ownership for development and quality of solutions and services that delight caregivers and add strategic value to PSJH. They evaluate requirements, estimate costs, and design and implement solutions and services. They define and implement the quality criteria for their solutions and services, using measurements and insights to understand and validate the quality of experience for caregivers. They manage and improve the engineering process, manage risks, dependencies and compromises, and integrate software into broader ecosystems and/or solutions and services.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Leverages their experience and expertise of software solutions, and caregiver or partner knowledge to contribute to the design and vision of the technical solution.

  • Uses own experience with and draws from others' expertise in multiple solution or service releases to allow only that which satisfies and delights the caregiver into the solution.

  • Designs solutions, services, and systems that allow for robust and quick iterations to keep pace with the changes required by the needs of the business.

  • Develops lasting, innovative, simple, elegant code and tests (including architecture when appropriate) to satisfy business and caregiver requirements and align with the long-term plan for the solution or service.

  • Leads efforts to validate technical solutions or architectural innovations, identifies critical design areas early in the development process and areas that need improvement downstream.

  • Chooses the appropriate internal or external technologies, incorporates research, creates designs and validation collateral, including test automations that are reused across the teams, and is an excellent judge of practices that work well.

  • Defines or reuses quality metrics, best practices, and coding patterns to ensure testable code. Uses data and insights from caregiver and solution to make technical design and implementation decisions.

  • Produces simple, elegant code and resolves the most difficult problems in the solution.

  • Identifies best practices and coding patterns and provides deep expertise on the coding and validation strategy.

  • Uses deep technical expertise of solution and service design and code to identify risks.

  • Proactively identifies, addresses, and validates potential defect areas upstream early and validates areas of risks downstream in complex systems; ensures compatibility between sub-systems and dependent systems.

  • Defines telemetry and analytics, including quality metrics, influences new types of data collection and instrumentation to find defects and enable optimization and troubleshooting.

  • Ensures that teams across the organization have the appropriate engineering lifecycle that provides for task estimation, design and code review, specification review, bug triage, code check-in, sign-off, test targeting, and performance standards to meet caregiver and business goals.

  • Leads design and code reviews across multiple feature areas.

  • Develops and drives new ways of thinking across groups within the division to improve quality, engineering solutions, and responsiveness to feedback and changing priorities.

  • Uses Agile software practices to rapidly develop appropriate and high-quality software solutions for our caregivers.

  • Has a sense of pride, commitment, and personal accountability for the end-to-end solution quality, completeness and resulting user experience for the life of the solution. Uses the solution regularly to understand it thoroughly and discover ways to improve it.

  • Builds a diverse team with capabilities needed to achieve current and future business objectives. Balances the development of existing employees while bringing in new external and internal talent. Creates an inclusive work environment where every employee can effectively engage and wants to be part of the team. Responsible for hiring, talent development, and performance management of managers and individual contributors.

  • Effectively communicates business strategy and goals and how they align to the team’s work. Plans the team’s work to achieve goals and responds effectively to changing priorities, maintaining team energy and results. Holds the team and individuals accountable for results and recognizes appropriately. Partners and collaborates with other teams and peers on related deliverables, and effectively leverages others in relevant work streams. Facilitates an environment of inclusion that leverages diverse perspectives and talent, to better represent and understand our global caregivers.

Job Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to play an influential role not only within their functional area for their level of technical and business domain expertise.

  • Good knowledge of software engineering best practices, having the ability to work hands on and to teach and grow others in the knowledge and skills.

  • Good knowledge of leveraging the power of data and metrics to drive behavior, process and priority decisions across the team and IS.

  • Ability to act as a software engineering leader across the IS team to drive consistent methods and process.

  • Ability to perform work independently with minimal supervision, to lead and grow a technical team, growing and hiring the next set of technical talent.

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and to organize the workload to ensure that timeframes are met and the work is successfully completely within deadlines.

  • Ability to make proper trade-offs between quality, time, scope, and resources to ensure the solution matches the requirements and obtains the maximum value for PSJH.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree - Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering and related technical fields. Or equivalent educ/experience.

  • 8 years - Related experience; more preferred.

  • 6 years - Leading technical teams in a complex and fast-paced environment.

  • Good experience with leveraging the power of data and metrics to drive behavior, process and priority decisions across the team and IS.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a healthcare environment.

  • Experience with MS Dynamics/CRM and MDA

  • Experience working in a global team environment.
