Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Director, Strategic Portfolios PSJH. This role currently works remotely, but will move to a hybrid model this year where part of each week is worked in a regional office and part of each week may be worked remotely. Candidates may reside in Washington, Oregon or California and should live within a commutable distance from headquarters locations in Renton, WA; Portland, OR; or Irvine, CA.

We are seeking a Director, Strategic Portfolios PSJH who will be responsible for providing strategic thought partnership, planning, integration, strategic portfolio/program/project management, analysis, and strategic decision-making support to senior executives and their teams. This position fills a key position as an analytic and strategic business partner to executives, flexibly responding to needs and enhancing the internal capability within the organization to develop and drive strategy, business value, and change. The portfolio leader is accountable for the full management and leadership of the assigned enterprise-wide strategic portfolio. The portfolio leader will partner with executives to align, integrate, and communicate priorities, investments, success measures, and high-level road map in support of the integrated strategic plan. In partnership with other portfolio leaders, this leader will align resources, manage dependencies, and make connections across all portfolios to drive business impact. Together, they will make recommendations around re prioritization, change management considerations, and interventions for projects that are off track. The portfolio leader will provide thought partnership to leaders in the alignment to strategic plans, articulating value and innovation. As a member of the HR Strategy & Solutions team, this position works to ensure we successfully focus and activate the organization to solve our most complex people challenges and accelerate business outcomes in support of the Mission and growth.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Work closely with senior executives to facilitate strategic planning, intake, prioritization, and road mapping of initiatives within assigned complex enterprise-wide portfolio, ensuring alignment of initiative and investment portfolio with human resources and organizational strategy

  • Partners with HR leadership to shape integrated workforce strategy across HR, Workforce Council, and Providence

  • Provides ongoing consulting guidance and thought partnership to HR leaders on connecting integrated strategy to implementation, executive communications, and compelling storytelling

  • Use strategic assessments and frameworks, business cases/plans, and pro formas to assess initiatives and provide recommendations to HR leaders to drive business impact

  • Partner with other portfolio leaders align resources, manage dependencies, and make connections across all portfolios to drive business impact

  • Track, monitor, and report on progress and value delivered within the assigned program portfolio

  • Provide thought partnership to program leadership especially in portfolio strategy and value management

  • Guide business case and pro-forma development for projects within portfolio

  • Prepare executive-level presentations that tell a compelling story

  • Provides direct support for management groups through agenda planning, meeting facilitation, action-item tracking, analysis, communication documentation, and project management as assigned. Plans, leads, and facilitates management group meetings as requested.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources, Healthcare Administration or related.

  • 8 years experience in HR, program and project portfolio management and leadership.

  • 5 years demonstrated experience with independent decision making, complex facilitation at the executive level to drive decision making and outcomes, prioritization and capacity management, and change management.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Business, Human Resources, Healthcare Administration or related.

  • Experience in a large, geographically dispersed, multi-state organization.

  • PMP certification
