Providence Health & Services Mental Health Specialist - Child & Adolescent in Oregon City, Oregon


Providence is calling on-call Mental Health Specialists to the Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Unit (CAPU) at our Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center in Oregon City, OR.

Our Mental Health Specialists are integral members of the interdisciplinary team that consists of Psychiatrists, Mental Health Therapists, Social Workers, Nurses and more. In collaboration with the treatment team, the Mental Health Specialists works with the children and adolescents on meeting their treatment plan goals.

We have Mental Health Specialists in the unit 24/7. Day, evening, overnight and weekend shits are available . Our on-call Mental Health Specialists are primarily scheduled in advance and may receive some short notice request for coverage but are not obligated to be available.

In this position, you will:

  • Work with other members of inpatient unit staff to provide patient care in a variety of job duties, and under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), or the Mental Health Professional Therapist, or the inpatient unit Manager or Director.

  • Provide hospital level and focused patient care, support, and milieu management for patients with behavioral health conditions and illness.

  • Work under the direction of a RN or other clinical staff, observe and report on patient conditions.

  • Be responsible for and/or support the daily and various therapeutic activities care of the patients.

  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary treatment team in the initial developing and modification of treatment care plans both during the admission process, and during the in-patient hospitalization.

  • Be responsible to act in accordance with our guiding principles of: "Know Me, Care for Me and Ease My Way" with each patient.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Social Science fields (Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or other related field)

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA-BLS) for Healthcare Provider Certification before hire and re-certification every 2 years

  • Completion of the basic Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Certified Nursing Assistant 2 (CNA2) program within 1 year of hire

  • 2 years in an acute or residential inpatient psychiatric facility in a similar role. Applicable internship or practicum experience may be applied towards required years of experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and problem solving skills

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Experience in a child or adolescent psychiatric environment
