Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Chief Medical Officer to Southern Oregon Service Area in Medford, OR.
We are seeking a Chief Medical Officer to work closely with administrative staff, members of the medical staff and members of the Providence Medical Group and its leadership to maintain high quality physician services and to assist these physicians to further the mission of the organization. The CMO will engage community providers to ease their ability to provide care, receive timely communication and will remove barriers to access.

In this position you will:
Endeavor to ensure that patient expectations are addressed, met, or exceeded through quality medical practices.
Serve as an active leader in achieving organization clinical excellence transformation and delivering on expectation of the System quality and safety plan.
Role models visionary approaches on business/financial matters including managed care, and is able to serve as a liaison between medical practice and its key audiences, including payers, patients, other providers, and the general public.
Present delivery system's point of view to practicing physicians as part of interventions with individual and groups of physicians.
Assist with the organizations effort to retain and recruit medical staff.
Actively participate in the medical staff implementation of information systems, and optimization of EMR technology.
Serve as an educator for the Medical Staff, Community Advisory Committed and other constituents related to quality, safety and other related initiatives.
Serve as a catalyst to promote positive medical staff culture and engagement.
Lead/participate on multidisciplinary quality teams that promote excellence in patient care outcomes.
Mediate conflict between physicians and/or hospital staff. Serves as a partner to support medical staff officers with intervention assistance in medical staff counseling and discipline.
Serve as active role model regarding service excellence and will work with physician leaders regarding specific patient experience opportunities.
Assist medical staff in achieving regulatory compliance (JCAHO, DSHS, CMS) as it relates to medical practice.
Represent the hospital on assigned internal / external committees, task forces, commissions and agencies and promotional or public relations efforts regarding medical staff and clinical affairs. Also monitors and interprets legislative and administrative activities which may impact the medical staff and the organization.
Serve as an ex-officio member of all medical staff committees. Performs any other administrative duties as required relative to medical staff but always with a full awareness of the complexity of the medical organization and rights of others. In concert with the chief of staff, receives, investigates and where possible resolves conflicts referred by the medical staff in reports/complaints against members of the medical staff to the appropriate bodies. Develops positive relations with organized medical groups, including IPA, Medicine Staff Organizations and Independent Medical Groups.
Integrate, monitor and evaluate medical staff and medical group quality assurance, risk management, disease management and utilization review activities.
Develop standards to improve quality outcomes, both clinically and administratively to ensure the highest standards and treatment and care of patients and to ensure compliance with hospital goals and objectives and all relevant licensing and accrediting bodies.
Assist the Director of Financial Services to ensure that medical records, medical information, coding and charting systems are administered in an orderly and systematic manner and accurately reflect the data upon which treatment is based and the actual treatment provided.
Provide support for information systems in development to allow feedback from physicians regarding practice patterns, performance and resource utilization, as well as the optimization of electronic medical record.
Assure that data analysis occurs appropriately to identify patterns, trends and reports and reports the results of these analyses to the appropriate quality review bodies.
Required qualifications for this position include :
An MD or a DO, who has an active license to practice in Oregon. With the position being primarily administrative, Oregon licensure may not be an essential component. Board Certification in a specialty.
Medical Staff membership eligibility essential.
Substantial clinical experience, at least 5 years, and preferably more.
At least 2 years Administrative experience.
Previous department chair, Medical staff officer, or leadership of significant medical staff committees or projects. Previous demonstrated medical staff leadership as demonstrated by positions held within the organized medical staff.
Knowledge of the health care environment and trends including economic as well as legislative.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Experience and demonstrated knowledge of credentialing, bylaws, rules and regulations.
Providence Medford Medical Center
Providence Medford Medical Center is located in Medford, in Jackson County, midway between Portland, OR, which is about 273 miles to the north, and San Francisco, CA, which is 374 miles to the south. Just 27 miles from the northern California border, Interstate 5 links Medford to major population centers north and south. Highway 62 north is the main route out of the valley to Crater Lake and Central Oregon. Highway 140 links Medford to Klamath Falls and southeastern Oregon. The Medford population is 75,000 and the population of Jackson County is at 202,000 with the largest ethnic group in the Rogue Valley being persons of Hispanic or Latino origin.
The surrounding mountain ranges, which include the Cascades, the rugged Coastal Range and the Siskiyou Mountains, help to moderate Medford’s annual rainfall, which is generally less than 20 inches. Snow is common and heavy in the mountains, but light on the valley floor where it normally melts within a few hours. During the winter, the daily low dips into the middle 30s while highs in the summer average around 90.
