Providence Health & Services Virtualization Engineer 2 in Beaverton, Oregon

Description:

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Virtualization Engineer 2 to our location in Renton WA, Portland OR or Beaverton OR.

We are seeking a Virtualization Operations Engineer 2 to provide technical expertise in server virtualization. This includes, but is not limited to, long range planning, design, and development as well as the technical support, maintenance, and administration of VMware vSphere ESXi and Cisco UCS environment.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Architecture, Operations and the Engineering teams to gather requirements. Engineer solutions across multiple discipline providing clarifications for each execution optimizing delivery solutions in the deployment of new technology/applications, supporting migrations of services/technologies and/or developing enterprise solutions based on industry standards and best practices.

  • Engineer enterprise solutions by and evaluate, customization and maintenance of systems/technologies including proof of concepts, installing and testing new releases, and upgrades.

  • Engineer Enterprise solutions for proactive management of services/technologies, which includes monitor and evaluate operating efficiency, analyze performance and tuning to meet the organizational needs.

  • Design and implement infrastructure of multi-tenant, multi-tier applications as well as implementation of tools and processes to support development, QA, and ops provisioning.

  • Analyze system problems to identify problem areas, leading RCA’s. Identify and troubleshoot highly complex application and infrastructure issues.

  • Follow established procedures required for each technology, and change management.

  • Engineer and automate the installations to enterprise standards and industry best practices providing standards to the Operations team.

  • Capacity Management Reporting for the technology the engineer is supporting.

  • In-depth knowledge of virtualized server environments, with a focus on VMware vSphere 5.x and 6.x. Able to architect, design, build, and maintain that platform

  • In-depth knowledge of Cisco UCS server environments. Able to architect, design, build, and maintain that platform.

  • Provide mentoring, coaching and training to junior staff.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 3 years’ experience (IT, computer science or business preferred) specific to the Engineer’s assigned technology.

  • 2-5 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • Experience in designing, deploying and supporting large-scale VMware ESXi environments using, vCenter, vSphere, vRealize Operations. Expert knowledge of VMWare configurations and management. Experience in implementing VMWare performance optimization, scalability, security, high-availability, monitoring, printing, connectivity, and group policy.

  • Must have a solid foundation in VMWare ESXi 6.5 from initial requirements, gathering, testing, documentation and installation through all troubleshooting aspects.

  • Experience in designing, deploying and supporting large-scale Cisco UCS environments using, UCS Manager, UCS Central. Expert knowledge of UCS configurations and management. Experience in implementing UCS performance optimization, scalability, security, high-availability, monitoring, printing, connectivity, and group policy.

  • Must have a solid foundation in Cisco UCS from initial requirements, gathering, testing, documentation and installation through all troubleshooting aspects.

  • Experience with automation tasks using well-established scripting languages (PowerShell and VBScript).

  • Engineers should have a high-level understanding of technologies provided to the organization across Engineering Technology teams. Providing the organization sound technology and cost effective solutions that are highly redundant and available. The core competencies should include the following; Domain Infrastructure multiple domains, includes DNS, DHCP, WINS, SFTP, BranchCache, Strong understanding of Windows server environments 2000/03/08/2012, and client systems, knowledge and experience with Windows 7 and application delivery/packaging solutions, Experience with Windows Operating System build and deployment process, working knowledge of VDI, solid understanding of network infrastructure (LAN/WAN/TCPIP), HP and Cisco UCS hardware, storage technologies working with NAS and SAN, and working knowledge of SAN replication, backup and recovery, business continuity, HP and Cisco UCS hardware, SCCM & SCOM for proactive management, High-level knowledge of Networks.

  • Performs all aspects of technical product support including working with vendors and/or use vendor knowledge documentation for information systems to diagnosis of problems, and will respond to all tier three escalations.

  • Demonstrable expertise around specifying, designing, and/or implementing system health, performance monitoring tools, and software management tools for 24x7 environments tier three response.

  • Maintain and enhance knowledge of industry trends and new technology through educational sources and continuous learning

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
