Providence Software Engineering Manager in Beaverton, Oregon

Description:

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Software Engineering Manager to our location in Beaverton, OR.

We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead development teams in technology and execution. This role exists to empower teams and position them for success through team building, promoting individual growth and development, providing technical leadership, and ensuring solutions best meet customer and stakeholder needs. It requires a servant leader who enables others to operate at their best and challenges them to continue growing.

As a member of the development team, this position acts on behalf of the team and for the best interests of the team. The Software Engineering Manager is a student of Agile development methods and is continually learning and helping the team improve in how it operates from an Agile perspective.

The Software Engineering Manager actively maintains a strong, up-to-date technical knowledge in application development models, frameworks, languages, and architectures (particularly cloud-based architectures). This position requires expertise building complex, secure, scalable solutions in HIPAA-compliant domains.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

Product Strategy and Execution

  • Works closely with company leadership, business stakeholders and their team to define a strategic product vision.

  • Develop deep knowledge of the products' users, and incorporate this knowledge into delivering new capabilities in the product.

  • Actively manage the execution and implementation of the product strategy.

  • Provide insight into development efforts and timelines to users and stakeholders as needed.

  • Identifies and mitigates risk to ensure the development team meets business commitments and customer needs.

Product Design and Architecture

  • Leverages expert technical knowledge and experience to design specific solutions and continually improve technical products and offerings.

  • Provide product expertise to support the sales and customer implementation process. As needed, participate in and support client presentations and provide advice and information to facilitate client interactions.

  • Partner with support and delivery organizations to ensure the successful operation of existing products, including external consultants, contractors, vendors, and technology partners.

  • Oversee application platform development to ensure the delivery of secure, stable, well-architected solutions.

  • Participate in research and development efforts and make recommendations for continual technical growth.

  • Actively research industry-wide technology trends and bring outside knowledge and experience into the team.

  • Aligns product technologies and platforms with markets and customer needs to maximize product value.

  • Sets, communicates, monitors, and reviews team and direct report objectives and goals.

  • Promotes the continued development of staff and establishes and maintains training programs and learning opportunities.

  • Participate in recruiting processes and selection of new hires.

  • Conducts New Hire; Job Change; Annual; and Quarterly Objective performance evaluations for direct reports. Ensures that evaluations are fair, objective, and timely.

  • Responsible for managing department human resources including staffing needs, discipline, PTO, promotions, job changes, and other issues in accordance with company policy.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferably in Computer Science or Information Systems.

  • 6 years software engineering and application development experience.

  • 5 years experience in building complex, enterprise-scale applications.

  • 2 years professional cloud development and architecture experience.

  • 4 years team leadership or management experience.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 5 years professional architecture or R&D responsibilities.

  • 5 years experience in building complex, highly-scalable, web-based applications.

  • Healthcare industry experience.

  • Professional AWS experience.

  • Incremental architecture and development in a truly Agile environment.

  • AWS Certifications (e.g. Solutions Architect).
