Providence Health & Services Manager of Operations Financial Transactions in Beaverton, Oregon


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Manager of Operations, Financial Transactions to our location in Beaverton, OR .

This position can work 100% remote or in office

We are seeking a Manager of Operations Financial Transactions to be responsible for managing coordination of benefits (COB), overpayment recoveries, subrogation and collections activities. The Manager of Operations will manage cost containment activities in avoiding and recovering inappropriate claim payments. The Manager of Operations will also manage relationships with outside vendors supporting this work. Oversite for ongoing day-to-day production needs are a major focus along with identifying & implementing process improvement opportunities. Primary areas of responsibility will also include establishing priorities and direct organization of tasks to improve day to day operations, meet required performance standards including turnaround times for claims payments and claim payment accuracy. Creating a work environment that supports caregivers by providing the tools, work environment, training, positive atmosphere to foster team building, high productivity, efficienty, quality and high caregiver engagement.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, Management or related field plus 6 years management/health plan/health care industry experience with strong leadership skills.


  1. Implementing and sustaining best practices to avoid inappropriate payments while ensuring timely release of payable claims.

  2. Providing oversight for effective negotiation with third parties to achieve fair, contractually appropriate payments within acceptable time frames.

  3. Establishing priorities and direct organization of tasks to improve day to day operations and response to organizational, workflow, technology, quality, and other initiatives to provide service excellence to members.

  4. Developing a work environment that supports employees and productivity by providing the tools, work space, training, positive atmosphere and appropriate staffing levels to foster team building, efficiency, effectiveness, and positive morale.

  5. Facilitating organizational changes needed to keep pace with a dynamic industry.

  6. Boundaries, jobs and tasks will need to be altered as circumstances dictate.

  7. Coaching and assisting Service Teams in achieving and sustaining desired levels of performance.

  8. Representing Operations in the many cross-functional committees regarding strategic and tactical decisions.

  9. Promoting and ensuring operational compliance with all performance standards.

  10. Project management and problem solving duties requiring a high level of organizational, planning, communications, team, and promoting skills.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Manage the Operations Financial Transactions Team in all aspects of their responsibilities, including coordination of benefits, subrogation, collection activities and customer service.

  • Contribute to organization's performance standards for the following work processes: claims turnaround, claim payment accuracy, claims statistical accuracy, budgeted administrative expenses, and avoidance and recovery of inappropriate claims payments.

  • Prepare and manage budget for the area.

  • Manage coordination of all work, quality improvement activities, projects, objectives, and staffing of the department by working with the other Operations Managers.

  • Provide a supportive, team-based environment that facilitates group decision making and employee empowerment.

  • Evaluate performance and initiates personnel actions such as hiring, merit increases, probationary and periodic reviews, promotions, transfers between teams, and disciplinary actions.

  • Foster professional relationships with Manager peers in Operations, Provider Relations, QMM, Pharmacy, Group Service, Sales, Communications, Information Services, Finance and Risk & Reimbursement.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, Health Care Administration, or related field, plus 6 years management/industry experience or 10 years related management/industry experience, if no bachelor's degree.

  • 3 years relevant management/supervisory experience in healthcare or related field

  • Successful leadership experience with high volume processing in Operations with use of contemporary electronic processing systems

  • Proven team building experience

  • Experience in successful project management

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Superior knowledge of Health Plan operations, project management, performance management, and the Facets system
