Providence is calling a Lab Assistant 2 (1.0 FTE, Rotating/Variable) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

This role works on a rotating/varying schedule which means the shifts will change depending on the need of the 24/7 operating lab.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a current skill set in laboratory processing, have a flexible schedule and have a motivation to learn and grow. In this position, you will:

  • Be responsible for the accurate and timely receiving, processing, and labeling of laboratory specimens, and the appropriate handling and/or disbursement of laboratory data and patient results.

  • Support personnel work with acute-care and outpatient caregivers, vendors, consultants, and other Laboratory Services staff in performing their duty.

  • Be responsible for registering outpatient laboratory encounters obtaining complex demographic, insurance, and medical information.

  • Maintain up to date knowledge and competency on required registration functions.

  • Utilize multiple computer applications in order to establish patient accounts.

  • Be expected to perform all duties in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects the Providence Health System mission, philosophy, and core values of respect, compassion, justice, excellence and stewardship.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High School degree or equivalent.

  • 1 year industry related coursework or experience AND/OR certification from an accredited phlebotomy or medical assistant program.

  • Proficiency in the use of personal computer and multiple business software applications.

  • Knowledge of specimen handling and collection requirements, general laboratory workflow, and basic medical terminology

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Some college coursework

  • Previous registrar experience

  • Certification from an approved government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (e.g. ASCP AMT, etc.)

  • Industry related coursework or work experience in phlebotomy, medical assisting or laboratory experience
